Today these words “Je Suis Charlie” were said, tweeted or photographed hundreds if not thousands of times around the world in response to the tragic shootings in Paris today. Tragically twelve individuals lost their lives at the hands of Islamic extremists who took it upon themselves to defend the honor of Allah by killing those who (in their opinion) had disgraced the prophet Mohammed by satirizing him in their publication Charlie Hebdo.
I find it interesting that the words “Je Suis Charlie” have become the rallying point for showing support for France and the individuals who lost their lives – for the words, Je Suis Charlie – “I am Charlie” could also be rendered, ” I am man” for the name Charlie is a derivative of the name Charles which means “man”.
And by these words, the world declares their solidarity and identification with (the slain individuals) – for every man (it might be said) is Charlie.
There are no coincidences or accidents (in my opinion) when it comes to major end time events. The words, “I am man” reverberating around the world is not without significance. For the solidarity shown to Charlie Hebdo who routinely blaspheme not only Islam but Christianity reflects I believe, the cynical, satirical and rebellious state of (not only the magazine) but mankind in general at this particular point in time. For “I AM” is the name for our most holy God – and not the name of man.
Of course, it can be said that those showing solidarity with the magazine do not necessarily endorse the contents buts rather their right to expression and I understand that. And, I am in no way suggesting that the slain individuals deserved their fate for they knew the risk they were taking by provoking Islam. What is sadder by far is the rejection of the one for whom they must now stand before and give account. And, the words “I AM MAN” – as they will find – just won’t cut it.
Watching and waiting with YOU for the soon return of Jesus! Cindy
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem they shall prosper who love thee” Psalm 122:6
Today, I thought of the 12 lives that were taken and if they knew Jesus as they had a job making fun of all beliefs, even though they made fun of Jesus, there was no fear of them one day dying and meeting the King of Kings.Sad as they are now gone; never having another chance to repent and know our Savior. Watching with you Cindy. Love you and God Bless.
