No foolin’

April Fool’s Day.   The first day of the fourth month of the year traditionally known for the harmless (usually) jokes and pranks people like to pull on one another.  A friend of mine posted on her Facebook page yesterday, how she had given a co-worker a message to call Mr. Bear at such and such number.  When the co-worker called the number, it was the number for the local zoo.  Clueless ’til the end, she told my friend, “I tried calling Mr. Bear at the number you gave me and the zoo answered”.  It was not until she saw the look on my friends face that she realized that she had been had. Gotcha!

How did this tradition get started?  Well, a quick check on Wikipedia reveals that April Fools Day is celebrated around the world and dates back to the middle ages where the first mention of the day is found in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales in 1392.  But, it really didn’t answer my question as to how the day got started.   But, what I did find was this interesting bit of information.

Iranians play jokes on each other on the 13th day of the Persian new year (Norouz), which falls on April 1 or April 2. This day, celebrated as far back as 536 BC, is called Sizdah Bedar and is the oldest prank-tradition in the world still alive today; this fact has led many to believe that April Fools’ Day has its origins in this tradition.[83]

Interesting, because this is amazingly close to the time period when Esther was in Persia. Is it possible that the Persian tradition for playing pranks actually originated with the events of Purim? I wonder.  To this day, it is a popular Purim custom to wear a mask or be in masquerade as a representation of the Queens identity as a Jew, which was concealed until she revealed it to the King.

Whether these customs are related or not, I really can’t say.  But, the enmity between Haman (Persia/Iran)  and the Jewish people remain until this day.  When Iranian leader Ahmadinejad and other Islamic leaders vow to wipe Israel off the face of the map and bring death and destruction to infidel nations, we can believe them.  They ain’t foolin’.   Just ask the 12 UN workers killed in Afghanistan a few days ago including the two who were beheaded.

April.  A month for the wise or a month for fools?  The English name for this month may have originated with the latin word Aperire  which means “to open”.  A possible reference to spring and the opening of flowers and the budding of trees.  But, could it mean more?

Already in the first days of the month, a scenario is working itself out strangely reminiscent of the one last summer which started with the explosion of the BP Oil rig on April 20.  In the news today, “efforts to plug leak of radioactive water in to Pacific Ocean fails.”    Hmmmm ….. effort fails. How many attempts did it take to finally seal up the Macondo Well last year before it was successful. (If indeed, it was successful).

April 2010, the Macondo Well. When looking up the meaning of the word Macondo, I found out it is the name of a town in a novel, a fictious town which had been cursed.

The name Macondo is the same name as the fictitious cursed town in the novel “One Hundred Years of Solitude” by Colombian nobel-prize winning writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

April 2011, the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant.   The name Fukushima means “Island of Good Luck” – sadly, not so lucky anymore as it will take an estimated one hundred years before the fuel rods can be made safe.  Hmmm … one hundred years, one hundred years.

I opened my Bible to read this morning and turned to Ezekiel chapter 45.  In verse 18, the Lord instructs his people to take a young bull on the first day of the first month of the year and sacrifice it.

“This is what the sovereign Lord says:  In the first month on the first day you are to take a young bull without defect  and purify the sanctuary.  The priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering and put it on the doorposts of the temple, on the four corners of the upper ledge of the altar and on the gate posts of the inner court.  You are to do the same on the seventh day of the month for anyone who sins unintentionally or through ignorance; so you are to make atonement for the temple.”

It’s interesting to note that all of the instructions above precede the observance of Passover which takes place on the fourteenth day of the month, the month of Nisan (April on our calendar). The instructions above speak of sanctification.  God wants his people purified and set apart for him.  This is what he did when he brought them out of Egypt.  He set them apart.  He caused them to pass through the sea on dry land. The sea did not touch  them.

It strikes me that the twin disasters of oil and radioactive material spilling in to the sea speak  of something quite the opposite.  They speak not of purity, but, of defilement.  The sea representing people and nations. And, the fact that both disasters occurred during the same month one year apart (not the earthquake) but, the spilling of the radioactive material itself and the spilling of the oil  make for a very weighty argument, that we should probably pay attention to.

If King Belshazzar was given a warning via a message on a wall, we’ve been given a ten-story high billboard.  No foolin’.

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, they shall prosper who love thee”  Psalm 122:6.    Watching and waiting with YOU for the soon return of Jesus!   Cindy

  1. Cindy,
It is interesting that this all seems to be, in my opinion, to pointing to the fact that “Gods people” aka the church have been allowing defilement to occur in their temple of the Holy Spirit.
False teaching has made inroads through the blending of religions. It’s called syncretism. Syncretism in Protestantism occurred when elements of other religious beliefs were integrated into mainstream denominations. As syncretism takes place fundamental beliefs change.
See the rest of this at.
The sheep seem to be scattered in their understanding around the truth. I do not believe that this is a problem of understanding so much as it is a problem not keeping the mind undefiled from understanding that does not come from God himself. After attending a “end of life celebration” yesterday there were a number of issues I have with how some of “Gods people” aka “the church”, seem to talk of their substantiation before God, which seems to be self based, Christ is mentioned but there is an idea that God is universal and your path or accomplishment in life is what should be your focus.
Americans have on a whole let “professionals” do their ” bible studying” and on Sunday morning they go out to church to hear what these “professionals” have to say about God and they go about their ” own way” the rest of the week.
I would say that it is time for us to kill the bull and purify our sanctuaries as we await the Bride Groom, our savior.
We have been told to take a stand and not allow the enemy to usurp the authority
    that we have in Christ.

[ Well said! Great comment Jeff. C]

    • Great post Cindy and reply Jeff.

  2. Hmmm, the Lord works in mysterious ways indeed. As I read Jeff’s link above, I was astounded to see that it went hand in hand with a blog I posted this week about our …Need to Know the Truth at The Mystery of the Ages. Also, I was startled by how many of the 12 steps have been instituted in my own church! Thanks for a great post and a great link.

  3. There is so much meaning in your blog today. “Sanctify” the congregation is found in Joel 2. April 20th is Hitler’s Birthday. April is the month where a “prince” will be married on the same day that Hitler married his girlfriend while hiding in “his” chamber.

Joel 2 also talks about the bridegroom and the bride and about the “Army of the Lord” unlike any other going into every window while God is pleading with the people to repent.

I believe by April 30th, there will be many topics for bloggers to “blog on.” Thank you for your post and all that have added even more value.

[Thanks Jeane, I agree, this month is going to be one for watching and more specifically for sanctification – “getting the leaven out”. Thanks too for your continued encouragement, I appreciate it very much! Grace and blessings! Cindy

  4. […] tangential but significant interest, given the subject at hand, Cindy by the Sea notes the origins of April Fool’s Day in the Persian court where Esther saved the Jews from annihilation — a set of events […]

  5. The highly radiated water flowing into the Pacific is astronomical ,7.5 million times above normal and the Babel 2,Fourth Reich crowd continue to downplay the seriousness of the situation.
‘men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth’ has begun.
What so many fail to grasp with Japan is God’s anger at those who proudly support His enemies and actively work to divide Israel.
    Japan_Palestinian Authority Relations

No Christian group or ministry had the courage to warn the Japanese people or any other country of the dangers of assisting God’s enemies because it was too taboo a truth to go near or touch.

And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
    Luke 16:15
The Palestinians are greatly esteemed in our world today as everyone beats a path to ‘help’ those who teach their children at an early age to hate and kill Jews and the sugarcoated Church is silent, wanting to play the part of loving, religious followers of the world’s evil agenda, rewarding evil with billions and billions to the Palestinians.
I do believe God has cut off Japan’s donation$ to the cursed children of AMALEK.

Can we even imagine the destruction coming to America for being in the drivers seat of this treacherous betrayal of the Jews which is on on a par with Hitler’s final solution?
God’s promise to cut in pieces those who meddle with Jerusalem is in effect for America Babylon.

  6. I was pleased as I read your comments. Am trying to become cleaned up and ready for whatever is coming. I belong to Jesus but I have missed some things. Pray for me. Your sister Peggy.

[Peggy, thank you so much for writing! I want to tell you that it is the blood of Jesus that washes us whiter than snow. That’s the only “cleaning up” you and I or anyone else needs and its something we are powerless to do on our own. Draw close to Jesus and he will draw close to you and by the power of the Holy Spirit, God will love you and help you in any challenges you face. I’ve been through some hard times too, my motto now is from Philippians 3:13 – “forgetting what is behind and pressing forward to what is ahead”. We can’t change the past but, the yet unwritten future belongs to God. Grace and blessings! Cindy]
