The Conspirator and the Passover Connection

   Lincoln assassination April 14, 1865

On April 15, Robert Redford’s new movie, The Conspirator, will open in theatres around the country.  The release date coincides with the 146th anniversary of the death of Lincoln following the shooting the previous night at Ford’s Theatre in Washington.  This particular movie centers around Mary Surrat, the only female convicted of  conspiracy to murder the President.  And, although Mary protested her innocence until the end, she was tried and executed with three others by hanging on July 7, 1865, the first woman to be executed by the Federal government.

I have not researched the life of Mary Surrat enough to have an opinion on her guilt or innocence.  But, I do find it interesting that the name Mary ( a derivative of the hebrew name Miriam) means “bitter” and her surname  Surrat, means “soul”.  Her last words to the  man who placed  the noose of knots around her neck ,please, don’t let me fall” –indicate not a last moment confession of either innocence or guilt, but, perhaps a plea for grace – the noose tied about her neck made with five knots rather than the usual seven, because the hangman reportedly did not believe the government would hang a woman.  The number 5 according to Bullinger; the number of grace.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Surratt

It’s interesting to note that it was on the fifth night of Passover 1865 (also Good Friday) that President Lincoln was shot. President Lincoln, because he was an emancipator is a type of Moses, you might say. And, Mary Surrat, a type of Miriam.  The name Mary/Miriam means “bitter” and is closely related to the hebrew word Maror, the name for the bitter herbs of the Passover Seder.  In a very loose sense, you might say that Mary by conspiring to kill Lincoln acted to destroy the authority of Lincoln in a way similar to that of Miriam who questioned and/or complained to God regarding the authority of Moses.  Her punishment for this offence, skin that turned a leprous white. (Numbers 12:1-10).

It’s important to understand that when we try to stand in the way of God, we become an enemy of God.   Thus, the harsh words towards Peter, when Jesus told him “get behind me Satan,”  in Matthew 16:23, when Peter vowed that he would never let Jesus suffer and die.  Miriam in questioning the authority God had given Moses as a type of redeemer, became an enemy of God.  It was for this that she received her harsh chastisement.

The spiritually supercharged month of Nissan is a vivid reminder of these things.  Therefore, it is imperative that we know and understand the plan of God, so that we do not become guilty of standing in his way.  A warning for those Christians who do not love, support and pray for Israel.

Five days after Passover on Nissan 19, Pharoah set out in pursuit of the Israelites who had fled Egypt.  Unsuccessful in re-capturing the Jews and killing or enslaving them, Pharoah would be just one in a long line of tyrants who would do their best to destroy the Jews.  But, it would not be until centuries later that another “Pharoah”  more terrible than all of the others would be born.  His name – Adolph Hitler.  Born April 20, 1889, the 19th day of Nissan.

When I look at the month of Nissan this year, I see a number of threads converging.   It is no secret that during the days of his campaign President Obama was unabashed about making a comparison between himself and President Lincoln; seeing himself as someone, like Lincoln, who would unite a divided nation.  President Obama also sees himself as a peace maker.  The one who after many failed attempts by others will finally secure peace in the middle-east.  But, will he?  So far, the President has done more to polarize the nation and embolden her enemies against her (and Israel) than any thing else.

On April 15, four days before Passover, the Quartet consisting of the UN, the United States, the European Union and Russia will meet to discuss the formation of a Palestinian state.  Peace in the middle-east peace not by uniting, but, by dividing – Israel.  An action which if taken will allow Israel’s enemies  an opportunity to prevail against them resulting in what could be called the ultimate pursuit of the Jews.  And, if Israel is not amicable to an agreement this spring, come September of this year, the decision will be made for them.  Warning“What God has united, let no man set separate” Matthew 19:6.    More than just words to the marriage vow.

This year, the first and second days of  Passover fall on April 19th and 20th.  April 20, the birth dates of two notorious enemies of the Jews; Hitler and Mohammed.

In chapter 11, in the book of Revelation, two witnesses appear in Jerusalem who have the power to turn the water to blood and to close up the heavens to rain.  Based on this description, many believe these two men will be Moses and Elijah. Every Passover Seder ends with an expectation for the prophet Elijah to come to the door to announce the arrival of the Messiah.  Because Moses and Elijah are inextricably tied to Passover, it would only make sense to link their arrival to this time of year.

On Good Friday 1865, a man who symbolized liberty and freedom suffered a bullet wound to the head. One of these days soon, another will suffer a similar type wound, the healing of which will cause the entire world to be amazed.  Just as the Bible is full of types and shadows, so is history.  I sometimes think that it is in the looking back that we’re best able to see what is ahead.

Mary Surrat met her end at the end of a hangman’s noose.  Was she guilty of conspiracy as charged?   Perhaps we’ll never know.  In Psalm 2:1 it says:  “The nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain …against the Lord and against His anointed one” –  and, we, dear friends, apart from the grace of God are guilty as charged.

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, they shall prosper who love thee”  Psalm 122:6   Watching and waiting with YOU for the soon return of Jesus!   Cindy

  1. Cindy,

I think you are spot-on with your assessment of the April-15th “peace deal”. It’s remarkable that it has had near zero reporting in the western press.

    Here is an interesting coincidence…

Revelation 12- A great wonder appeared in heaven……..

And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

    ———

There it is, the celestial sign in the middle of the Tribulation and it might as well say September 26th. The “Woman” Virgo is clothed with the sun every year at the end of September. The addition of the new moon at her feet happens about every 3 years. This will many times be 1 Tishri as it is on Sep 26 2014, Yom Teruyah, and ten days later is Yom Kippur (The one day a year that the Priest entered the Holy of Holies). Celestially 3.5 prophetic years forward or backwards is the Hebrew month of Nissan perfectly defining a seven year period.

The Peace Treaty of April 15th….

Obama’s retreat leaves Israel at the mercy of multilateralism

Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. Rev 2:10

24 April is First Fruits and Easter Sunday

    Keep looking up!

[Thanks Michael for writing and thank you so much for sharing this very important information. I agree, April 15 (Nisan 11) and April 20 (Nisan 16) will be very important dates to watch. Nisan 16 is the date King Xerxes extended his sceptre towards Queen Esther giving her permission to approach him. The rapture perhaps? Eyes to the skies! C]

    • Time is running out for a seventy year Biblical timeline based on 1948. For example (just a guess) …

      11 March 1949 Israel Armistice
      +22680 (63 Prophetic Years)

      14/15 April 2011 10 Nisan ( False Peace)
      +1260 (3.5 Prophetic Years)
      26 September 2014 1 Tishri (Abomination)
      +1290 Great Tribulation
08 April 2018 First Fruits Sunday Nisan 24!!

      +45 1335 Days Total
      23 May 2018 9th of Sivan (Pentecost+3)

      -70 //Solar// Years
      23 May 1948
Department of State Bulletin of May 23, 1948, p. 673. On May 14, 1948, the United States accorded de facto recognition to the State of Israel

      And another 10 days later?

23/24 April 2011, First Fruits (Church starts seven year worship service?)
      +1260
04 October 2014, 10 Tishri, Yom Kippur (Witnesses?)
      +1260
      17 March 2018, 1 Nisan/Abib (Return Begins)

I fully respect differing opinions on Eschatology and difficult passages.

Though personally, I agree with you and continue to be a literalist with regard to the witnesses. I think there is a strong possibility they will show up near Passover/ First Fruits be slain near Yom Kippur and be raised near Tabernacles.

Time is almost up to fit this all in 70 years from Israel becoming a nation.

      Blessings
      Mike

[Hi Mike, I think the time line you propose is very exciting and quite plausible. The next few days will tell the story. In his abundant grace, C]

      • It seems the only other possibility for a 70-year timeframe would be 70 years from 1967, which is when Israel finally regained control of Jerusalem, which is the centerpiece of God’s timetable and “his” city. That would fit more closely with 2,000 years since Christ left (sometime around 30-34AD), but it also seems so far away considering things seem to be moving forward so quickly these days with nothing really left that would need another twenty years to develop.
We have the ability to all view an event live globally, we have the ability to track everyone with GPS and mark everyone with RFID tattoos and touchless, cashless commerce via NFC is already rolling out. So all of the beast system control components are available today and could easily be implemented given an emergency such as the rapture would create.
We also have the reformed Roman empire coming together, some interesting candidates for the final antichrist, peace attempts that include dividing up Israel and Jerusalem, and plenty of bubbling conflicts in the region. Natural disasters also appear to be on an increase. One is left with the distinct impression that the time is nearer rather than farther. And we all certainly look expectantly for the realization of our hope, His coming for his bride. =)

      • I agree Jay, timelines are a dime a dozen, Validation is when singular visible events line up with Biblical Prophecy. Then it’s time to refresh your oil (pray), put an edge on your sword (read) and look up (hope).

        More News…
Samantha Power is currently a National Security advisor to President Obama. Together with Susan Rice (UN) and Hillary Clinton the three are urging the President to abstain in the April 15 vote by the Quartet on the decision to validate a Palestinian State.

  2. This blog has brought many things needing attention to the forefront. I am continuing to be amazed at the significance of this month.

I have found that we must go “very deep” to even begin to understand Revelation. I no longer believe that “Elijah and Moses” are going to appear. I believe the symbology goes much deeper.

I believe the reference to the “head wound” has to do with a nation that was wounded and would reappear. (I believe this is Germany.) I believe the UK is “one head” (three crowns). I do believe that the entire world will come against Israel (which is both the nation of Israel and the Jews that have been hidden through the ages spread throughout the world). Just last night the Holy Spirit pointed out

Joel 3:2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, WHOM THEY HAVE SCATTERED AMONG THE NATIONS AND PARTED MY LAND.

I don’t believe Israel is going to again be captured and drug off to other lands (although I guess anything is possible). I believe this is a reference (“scattering”) that happened before and that many with a heritage in Israel are still hidden among the nations.

Thank you for your article today. It brings many things to the forefront. Israel is definitely front and center in the Lord’s timeline. Many feel that we are sitting on a “time bomb” just waiting for it to explode!

[ Hi Jeane, Thanks for writing! I agree, there is a sense of imminency like never before regarding current events and the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. While we may differ on some of the details, the important thing, of course is that we’re ready by knowing Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Watching and waiting with you, C]

    • “I don’t believe Israel is going to again be captured and drug off to other lands (although I guess anything is possible).”

      Nope. Amos 9:15:
“I will plant them on their land, and they shall never again be uprooted out of the land that I have given them,”says the LORD your God.”

      🙂

[Agreed, Israel will never again be removed from the land. Anyone who attempts to do so will find themselves up against Christ, the immovable rock. Isaiah 8:14, Rom. 9:33 – c]

      • They will do it themselves after they have trusted in a false “messiah”…

“When, therefore, you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Mt 24:15

Then when they are in the cleft of the rock, in the mountain fortress of Petra (Edom)…

And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. Zech 12:10

Then He who is “mighty to save”…

Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. Isaiah 63

“I will plant them on their land, and they shall never again be uprooted out of the land that I have given them,”says the LORD your God.” Amos 9:15:

    • Michael: Very interesting stuff. You quoted: Then when they are in the cleft of the rock, in the mountain fortress of Petra (Edom)… I have heard portions of this scripture used in sermons, but can’t find it in the King James. What version and what scripture does this quote come from. Thanks.

      • O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely. Song 2:14

There was a minister who did an extensive Biblical study on Petra, It was called “Petra: Prophecy Revealed”.

Time will reveal everything, someday prophecy will end, and divisions in the Church will cease. That will be a glorious day.

      • Michael – is this the verse you are referencing?

Sgs 2:14 O my dove, [that art] in the clefts of the rock, in the secret [places] of the stairs, let me see thy countenance let me hear thy voice; for sweet [is] thy voice, and thy countenance [is] comely.

  3. I’m sorry, this was the scripture I was referring to with the 7 heads:

Rev 12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

The 10 horns represent leadership – 7 heads (rulers) over what I perceive to be 10 countries. The UK has “rulership over 3” that are highlighted in the many
Crests of the UK, England, Scotland and Ireland.

  4. Cindy,
I really enjoy your posts but would encourage you to study the real Lincoln instead of the myth. Comparing him to Moses is really disgusting.

[Hi Steve, thanks for writing. Of course, Lincoln is not comparable to Moses. Nevertheless, (real or myth) the historical view of Lincoln is as a deliverer; someone who would unite the country. BO supposedly seeks to emulate Lincoln, but, his actions demonstrate quite the opposite. Grace and blessings! C]

  5. Hi Cindy,
I follow and enjoy reading your site. I wanted to know your thoughts on Shimon Peres and his meeting with Obama on April 5th regarding dividing the land for peace. I just thought this was highly interesting. His last name is actually in the message in the writing on the wall. I would love it if you would get back with me.

In doing a search on Shimon Peres, I kept noticing different articles stating, “he appears as a dove”, now these are different writers. Meaning: “Shimon” Its source is a Hebrew expression meaning “Hearkening.”
Daniel 5:28 Aramaic Peres, the singular of Parsin
Parsin means ‘divided’ – your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians.
    Shimon Peres – “Hearkening Division”
Writing on the Wall, in the Book of Daniel, chapter 5. UPARSIN, ופרסין, which Daniel, in his interpretation, did not pronounce in the way it was written, but as PERES, פרס, meaning both PERSIAN(S) and DIVISION.

Hi Cassandra, Thanks for writing! I think your observations are very interesting. Names do tell a story! The reason Peres is referred to so frequently as a dove is because he used to be a hawk! From a biography titled, “Shimon Peres, From Hawk to Dove –

Peres said in an interview with Vision, “I have changed because the situation has changed. When I thought that Israel was in danger, I was a terrible hawk. I thought it my duty to do whatever I could to defend Israel to make it stronger. But that wasn’t a purpose; this was a must. Once I felt that we could go for peace, I changed, because that is a purpose. War is a must, peace is a goal.” http://www.vision.org/visionmedia/article.aspx?id=591

Netanyahu on the other hands is an ultra hawk whose name Benjamin means “son of my right hand” and Netanyahu “gift of God”. As Israel navigates through their final seven years the names of these men may well prove prophetic – providing a glimpse as to what lies ahead. The leadership of the nation at this critical time is no accident. While blessed are the peacemakers, with some bullies a sling shot and stone is all they understand. In my opinion, the meaning of these names say alot about where God’s favor rests. C]

  6. Of possible significance… On page 188 of, “Power, Faith and Fantasy, America in the Middle East, 1776 to the Present,” a book he wrote before becoming Israeli Ambassador to the U.S., author Michael Oren notes:

“Riding with the First Lady in a carriage on the evening of April 14, 1865, the president [Abraham Lincoln] purportedly spoke of his dream of someday touring Jerusalem. Later, after they reached their destination, Ford’s Theater, and took their seats in the box, Lincoln again leaned toward his wife and whispered, ‘How I should like to visit Jerusalem!’

Just a few hours later, in one sense, he did.

Mary Surratt’s son, Southern sympathizer/spy John Harrison Surratt, Jr., also implicated in the assassination and kidnapping plot escaped… to Egypt. (The exact reverse of what happened at the original Passover).

From there, he was captured and extradited back to the U.S. where he was tried but never convicted. One of his intermediate stops? A priest in Canada, followed by the Vatican, where “he served for a time in the Ninth Company of the Pontifical Zouaves [infantry] in the Vatican City“. Born on the 13th of April, 1844 (a few days after the end of Passover week), he died on the 4th day of Passover, 1916.

[ Very interesting! Thank you Art for these additonal comments. It would be 32 years after the death of Lincoln before the first Zionist Congress would meet in Basel Switzerland to discuss the re-establishment of a Jewish homeland the meeting of which began the process of sinew and bones coming together to bring life to a body once thought dead. Mark Twain toured Palestine in 1867
lamenting in “The Innocents Abroad” the desolate condition of the Holy land at that time. Who would have believed one hundred years later, the desert would be in bloom and Jerusalem would once again be the capital of Israel and home to millions of Jews gathered from around the world. C]

  7. Actually, Lincoln was shot on the night preceding the 5th day of Passover (which in Jewish law is construed as the 5th day, but in secular counting would have been Friday the 4th day of Passover, as he was shot at nine or ten thirty, a while before midnight).
