A Minute to Midnight

Image result for one minute to midnight

Clocks around the world are ticking as 2016 slips away in to history. And for many, it will be a welcome departure as 2016 was an exercise in turbulence; a spoiled child relentless in having its own way. We hope the New Year will be better. We pray the New Year will be better.  And by golly, it should be once that spoiled petulant child of a year has been put to bed once and for all. At least we hope.

Each year brings with it its own set of new hopes and fears. Mostly hopes, at least for the first day or so. I’ve always like the new year, it feels like a time for re-set. Goals set for fitness, relationships and employment once unachievable all of the sudden seem achievable in light of the new year. The ten pounds I put on the previous year -that old year all history now – the New Year, says, I can do better.  As if something magical happens between a minute to midnight and one minute after and all the goals I failed to reach the previous year suddenly become possible once again. But this year is different. This year the ten pounds I put on last year hardly seem relevant.

2017 is shaping up to be unique. More than unique. A mere two weeks from now the UN will meet in Paris (Sunday, January 15) regarding the so-called two state solution for middle-East peace and the division of Jerusalem. If this is taken to a vote and passes (and  I believe it will), we will have entered a time period unlike any other. And if you think 2016 was bad, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. This move by the UN will bring about incredible disaster, war, and a shaking of everything that can be shaken. And the United States, who had the power just days ago to veto this potential move will be held particularly responsible.

John Kerry in his address following the back stabbing move by Israel’s once greatest friend made an interesting statement – he said, (regarding Israel) –

“…Israel can either be Jewish or democratic. It cannot be both”

And while he meant it one way ….. in another way, it is completely true. Israel must find who they are and stick to their God given identity. Israel does not need the UN, Israel does not need the United States ….. and Israel does not need men like John Kerry laying out an ultimatum for them. Israel will not concede to this kind of pressure and Jerusalem (as prophesied) will become a burdensome stone to all nations. Israel needs to remember that their greatest King, (King David) needed but one stone to fell the giant Goliath. And while they do not (for the most part) know King Messiah, Jesus yet, they will – for when the times comes it will be he himself who will fight on their behalf.

Hauntingly, the book of Joel puts it this way ….

“Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near ….”

Friends, we are one minute to midnight so to speak. The future is directly before us. The nations have a decision to make and so do we …..

I pray that if you do not know Jesus as Lord, King and Messiah that you will make that decision today. It’s a very simple process ….. just pray this pray from the sincerity of your heart –

Dear God, I recognize that I am a sinner. I have lived my life my own way, by my own rules and I recognize that my sin has kept me apart from you. I ask Lord for your forgiveness. Please cleanse me from all my sin and come in to my life to dwell. Thank you God for your love and your grace in Jesus name, Amen!

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem they shall prosper who love thee” Psalm 122:6

Watching and waiting with YOU for the soon return of Jesus! Cindy
