On Him We Have Set Our Hope

20160822_164848August 2016, Puget Sound, Washington

I love the serenity of this photo. A beautiful afternoon with my daughter and two of my grandchildren seaside on the Puget Sound. We had been collecting seashells and found some drift wood that we fashioned in to a cross. It was a special moment for my grandkids and I to ponder the incredible love of Jesus and the marvelous beauty of his creation. It was the kind of moment in time that speaks to the heart that in spite of the craziness of the world about us there is someone who sees, understands and has it all under control. A comforting thought as the days around us become increasingly chaotic. The earth may quake, the mountains fall but by faith in Jesus, we stand firm.  His coming for those who know him and love him perhaps closer today than ever before.

As our country becomes increasingly divided it is tempting to look to a politician to solve all of our problems. Germany looked to Hitler to solve theirs as well as restoring their national pride and we all know how that turned out. So we must be very careful. Wise as serpents, harmless as doves (as the Bible says) for these are not only days of chaos but days of great deception. Imperative now (perhaps more than ever before) that we keep our eyes focused on the one whose very name is righteousness and truth. He will never lead us astray.

I loved our time at the seashore. Our simple cross of driftwood. We laughed and talked. Picked up seashells and marveled at the creativity of our God. We had some time of prayer thanking God for his beautiful creation, for family and friends and most of all for Jesus, in whom our salvation and our hope is found – and as we packed up to leave that evening – our bags stuffed full with shells and sand and wood …. I knew in my spirit that as we left that place, we left that place renewed.

“Indeed in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope …..” 2 Corinthians 1:9-10

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem they shall prosper who love thee” Psalm 122:6

Watching and waiting with YOU for the soon return of Jesus!  Cindy
