Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction. History twisting and turning upon itself in ways we often don’t expect – recoiling upon itself like a serpent sleeping in the sun.  A faintly beating pulse that continues to shape the present out of the past and back again.

The all-new Temple of Baal …. coming to a city near you.

In what has been termed “a gesture of defiance” the Institute of Digital Technology has teamed up with Harvard University, the University of Oxford and Dubai’s Museum of the Future to create a 50 foot replica of the entrance to the Temple of Baal that will be erected in Times Square sometime next month.

The Temple of Baal (as you may remember) is the 2,000  year old structure located in Palmyra, Syria that was destroyed by Isis last year. Considered a “cultural treasure” it will be replicated in Times Square next month as well Trafalgar Square in London and ultimately in a thousand different cities around the world.

Oh, and its also the place God hated for its practice of child sacrifice.

I don’t know about you, but this strikes me as a bit strange.

Sure its an ancient structure.  And no one is suggesting any one go about destroying ancient artifacts large or small ….. but some how ….. this just doesn’t sit right. It seems a bit over kill. Over the top. You know what I mean? The Temple of Baal …. of all things. And, why now?

There’s something else at work here and I think I know exactly what it is. And, I have a very strong hunch it has a whole lot less to do with defiance of Isis than it does defiance of God.

For the same spirit that called for the blood of children then …. calls for the blood of children now.
