Katla and New England’s Dark Day

“The fifth angel sounded his trumpet and I saw a star that had fallen from sky to the earth.  The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss.  When he opened the Abyss smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace.  The sun and sky were darkened from the smoke from the Abyss.  And out of the smoke locusts came down upon the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth.  Rev. 9:2-3

– ICELAND’S PRESIDENT WARNS THAT ERUPTION AT KATLA VOLCANO IS CLOSE

It appears that the question of whether or not big sister Katla would erupt following the eruption of little sister Eyjafallajokull is just about over.  How imminent the eruption might be is a matter of speculation although it’s a historical fact that when ever the smaller volcano erupts, the larger one is likely to follow.  According to news reports out of Iceland today, seismic activity around the mountain has increased exponentially since May 21, leading experts to believe an eruption may be imminent.  If Katla should blow, the projected global effect would be devastating.  When Icelands Laki volcano erupted in the mid 1780’s, the gases produced a smog that traveled on the jet stream across the globe killing thousands in Europe from gas poisoning, lowering temperatures causing crop failure, and ultimately killing millions more by hunger through famine.  Interestingly, while researching volcanic effect, I ran across a story called New England’s Dark Day.  It’s the true account of an unexplainable darkness which fell over New England in 1780.  Close in proximity to the 1783 eruption of Laki, I found it to be a fascinating story.

Apparently on May 19 of 1780, a darkness fell across New England at mid-day which was so pervasive and so intensely dark that chickens went to roost, candles had to be lit and by one New Englander’s account,  “one could not even see one’s hand in front of their face.”  And, the darkness lasted not minutes, but, hours.   In the years following the event, people have tried without success to figure out what may have caused this phenomenon. And, the truth is, no one knows for sure. The article explores a number of possibilities such as an eclipse, a volcanic eruption or a forest fire, all of which are dismissed for various reasons, although the article leans toward a forest fire as a possible cause. I don’t know about you, but I can’t imagine a forest fire wide enough in scope to cause a lingering darkness of that intensity, but what ever the cause  may have been, what I find at least as interesting as the darkness itself, is the reaction of the New Englanders to the darkness.  To their credit, these early American’s who were well read in the scriptures, when they saw the unexplainable and pervasive darkness which fell over the land, believed the day of the Lord to be near and many of them rushed to their churches to repent.  (Click here, for the full account of this fascinating story:   http://www.johnhorrigan.com/darkday.html)

As Katla readies to blow, like the New Englanders of 230 years ago, we too, believe the day of the Lord is near.  And, not to diminish their faithful observation, but, we in this 62nd year following the birth of Israel have more than one isolated event to tell us the prophetic word of God is being fulfilled and the day of the Lord truly is near.

      frogs

Take for instance the horde of frogs that appeared 12 miles outside Thessalonike Greece yesterday.  In my opinion, it is no accident that millions of frogs left their natural habitat just as Katla is about to blow.  Frogs as most of us know, were the second plague brought on Egypt when Pharoah refused to let the Israelites go and frogs in the Bible are symbolic of unclean spirits. When God released the plague of frogs on Egypt, the Bible says that frogs were every where (even in the kneading trough where dough was being prepared for bread)  In this same way, when these unclean spirits are released, they, like the frogs which invaded Egypt, will be every where searching for habitation, and sadly will find suitable hosts in the yeast-filled bodies of those who without Christ were left behind.  I believe the massive appearance of frogs yesterday outside Thessalonike is a serious indication that the words preached by Paul to the Thessalonians regarding the day of the Lord, is near.

“Now brothers about times and dates, we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.  While people are saying peace and safety, destruction will come on them suddenly as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.  But, you brothers, are not in darkness that this day should over take you as a thief.”

  1. Amen, Cindy…time is oh-so-short.

I read Art’s post and just went…um, yep, right on time as I’m looking at the “prophetic clock” with this event/warning sign.

It continues to amaze and astound me that many (including members of my family) see these and other large, or catastrophic, or disastrous, or very-very unusual events as unrelated and unconnected. Oh, and it being a Divine message of preparation? Huh? What? Nah…don’t be silly…we’ve got a whole lifetime…that “end of the world stuff” won’t happen any time soon.

We are truly blessed by the Holy Spirit to really see what is going on and I, for one, am eternally grateful.

    Maranatha!
    YBIC,

  2. We sure appreciate your attention to our region from 5,000 miles away, Cindy!! Interestingly, Pastor David Wilkerson felt moved to feature a special call for prayer for New England in his devotional today. Revival here we come!

    • I saw that, too Art! Also, Cindy, did you see the single smoke ring sent up by the volcano photo on Spaceweather.com today? (I sent it to you, Art, in an email.) Just like the verse in Luke where the man told Jesus, “I believe, help my unbelief”, I believe we are in the end times, the rapture is a soon-to-be-had event and the tribulation is imminent, and God is showing me (helping me believe it more and more) every day that is really true. How awesome! Everyday I say to myself, “Who’d a thunk it in my lifetime?”

All praise, glory, and honor to Jesus the Messiah! Thank you Cindy for your fine messages.

      Kim

  3. Wow you guys I live in Connecticut and I read David Wilkerson’s post ansd went to the Mt Zion School website and called my Pastor and asked if we could hold a day of fasting and prayer. Also today two separate volcanos errupted – one in Guatemala and one in Hondouras. I am leaving for El Salvador for the summer on June 14th to work as a missionary for the Word of Life camp there and I keep getting a recurrent thought that I very well may be going up into the clouds to see Jesus from there!! What exciting times we are in and thank you for the excellent job you (Cindy and Art) do of matching scripture to events. I will be thinking about it and then I go on one of your sites and there it is all spelled out! Great to hook up with like minded people!!!! God bless you both – Maranatha Lord Jesus!

    • Hi Linda, Thanks for writing and for your continued encouragement. We do live in exciting times indeed! May God bless you with a safe trip to El Salvador. We’ll be praying for an abundant harvest from your work. Please keep us up-dated as you are able. Cindy

  4. oops it was equador and Guatemala not Hondouras – here is the link

  5. Hey Cindy, Here is an amazingly simple solution to the oil in the gulf. http://www.wimp.com/solutionoil/

    • Hi Frank, Thanks for writing. I tried to view the video but, it kept stopping every three or four seconds, so I finally gave up. Maybe the rest of you will have better luck. God knows we need a solution to this mess, unfortunately, we live in a day and time when few realize, they key to any solution first begins on our knees. In my story, “New England’s Dark Day” – our early American brothers and sisters, when they believed the day of the Lord was near, turned to the Lord in repentance – how far we’ve slipped from that godly heritage. Cindy

  6. Interesting video about the oil spill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDGAoU1H2gM

    • Hi Jay, Thanks for passing that along. If these guy are right, (and I suspect they are), we’re in deep trouble. I think most of us are starting to realize the information made public and what is actually happening, is not one and the same. God help us! Cindy

  7. 40 days since the oil disaster began and the flotilla arrives off Israel’s/Gaza’s shores, creating pressure there that is about to explode.

  8. […] Cindy-by-the-Sea (who calls Hawaii home and thus is often still up posting as I wake up) penned “Katla and New England’s Darkest Day” . Like all of her material, I recommend […]

  9. You posted, “And, not to diminish their faithful observation, but, we in this 62nd year following the birth of Israel have more than one isolated event to tell us the prophetic word of God is being fulfilled and the day of the Lord truly is near.”

I was wondering if there is a reason why you keep in mind the years since Isreal had become a nation. Does your dating have any quarellation with the parable of the fig tree?

May YHWH bless you and keep you…
