Son of a rebel

On November 5, 2008, the campaign for the Presidency of the United States by Barack Hussein Obama came to a successful conclusion.  In the months leading up to the election, the word “change” was everywhere, so much so, that the word change itself became synonymous with the Obama campaign.  The fact that change “from what and to what” was never fully identified, seemed to matter little to many of the voters, in fact, the word change became a mantra of sorts, gathering speed under its own momentum for those caught up in the excitement and delerium of the moment.  But, the use of the word change was no accident, no lucky guess by a publicity or media guru for a successful campaign slogan – no “change we can believe in” was planned, executed and a long time in coming.

At the 2008 DNC, Michelle Obama, as some of you may know, quoted from a book called “Rules for Radicals”.  Rules for Radicals is a far left book, published in 1971 by a man whom many consider to be brilliant; Chicago community organizer Saul Alinsky.  Mr. Alinsky has since passed away, but, his work and his principles remain very much alive in the hearts and minds of those influenced by his work – two of whom are, President and Mrs. Obama.  Quoting directly from chapter 2 of Mr. Alinsky’s book, Mrs. Obama had this to say:

Barack stood up that day,” talking about a visit to Chicago neighborhoods, “and spoke words that have stayed with me ever since. He talked about “The world as it is” and “The world as it should be…”  And, “All of us driven by a simple belief that the world as it is just won’t do – that we have an obligation to fight for the world as it should be.”

The world as it is, and the world as it should be; direct quotes from chapter 2 of Mr. Alinsky’s book.  Why is this important? –  Stay with me, I think you’ll see.

– this is dedicated …

The other day a friend of mine at work ask me if I was familiar with a book called Rules for Radicals and the influence it had on President Obama and his policies.  I said I was not, so he agreed to bring a copy from home for me to take a look at.  Now my friend is not a radical, in fact, far from it, but, he had heard about the book and its influence on many of those running for office and had purchased it out of curiosity.  When he handed me the book, he said, “Take a look at this.”  In the forward to the book, there was a dedication – a dedication which shocked me.  And, although it shocked me, I have to say, it also explained a lot.  In the forward to the book Mr. Alinsky does three things, first he quotes Rabbi Hillel (Saul Alinsky is Jewish) and Thomas Paine, (French and American revolutionist) and then makes a dedication to one he refers to as “the first rebel.” –

“Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgement to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins — or which is which) the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom– Lucifer.”

Do I believe Mr. Alinsky is a Satanist, no – not in the sense that Alistair Crowley or someone like that is a Satanist.  What I do believe is that Mr. Alinsky, who in spite of being born into an orthodox Jewish family, (later becoming an agnostic or perhaps even athiest) believes Lucifer to be a convenient allegory from myth or history for his radical ideas, I can assure you, the one to whom the dedication was made, does not.

It is a well-known fact, the influence that Chicago community organizer Saul Alinksy had in later years on fellow organizer Barack Obama.  Following the DNC of 2008, the son of Saul Alinsky had this to say of Obama “he learned his lesson well.”

What is exceedingly sad and ultimately prophetic in all of this can be found in the first few pages of his book.  In trying to define the generation gap that became the dynamic and driving force which shaped the 1960’s and the years which would follow Mr. Alinsky had this to say:

“If the young were now writing our Declaration of Independence they would begin, ‘When in the course of inhuman events …’ and their bill of particulars would range  from Vietnam to our black, Chicano, and Puerto Rican ghettos, to the migrant workers to Appalachia, to the hate, ignorance, disease and starvation in the world. Such a bill of particulars would emphasize the absurdity of human affairs and the forlornness and emptiness. the fearful loneliness that comes from not knowing if there is any meaning to our lives.  When they talk of values they’re asking for a reason.  They are searching for an answer, at least for a time, to man’s greatest question, ‘why am I here?”

And though I have not yet completely read the book, it is easy to see by taking a brief look through it, that the book makes no attempt to answer the many profound questions it poses, yet moves forward anyhow to outline a systematic course of action for creating effective change in relation to these very same questions.  In other words, “we can’t answer these questions, –  life as we know it is not satisfying, –  so perhaps change, ( although we have no idea where change may take us), –  may provide the satisfying answers to life we’re looking for.”  Unbelievable! Absolutely illogical!   And, if you think this mixed-up, drug induced generation of love beads, “hair, hair, long beautiful hair” and “turn on, tune in or drop out” has disappeared, then you have been sleeping somewhere like Rip Van Winkle;  for the radicals of yesterday are the politicians and corporate leaders of today, holding some of the most powerful positions in the world.

The far left love to cloak themselves in issues like social justice and books like Saul Alinsky’s decry the materialism of those living in 1960’s suburbia with all their luxuries and modern amenities.  Strange that many adherent’s to philosophies such as his (Hollywood/politicians) cannot see the hypocrisy of their own actions, for the materialism and excesses of the present generation exceed ten fold that of the previous.

In one of the final chapters of the book Mr. Alinsky writes:

“The rest of the middle class, with few exceptions, reside in suburbia, living in illusions of partial escape.  Being more literate, they are even more lost. Nothing seems to make sense.  They thought that a split-level house in the suburbs, two cars, two color TV’s, country club membership, a bank account, children in good prep schools and then in college, and they had it made.  They got it — only to discover that they didn’t have it.  Many lost their children  — they dropped out of sight into something called the generation gap.  They have seen values they held sacred sneered at and found themselves ridiculed as squares or relics of a dead world. The frenetic scene around them is so bewildering as to induce them to either drop out into a private world, the nonexistent past, sick with its own form of schizophrenia — or to face it and move into action.  If one wants to act, the dilemma is how and where; there is no ‘when’ with time running out, the time is obviously now.  There are enormous basic changes ahead.”

It’s clear to me that President Obama and others who have been placed into powers of position at this time have a blueprint for change, a blueprint which they have effectively followed.  They see a “world as it is” and mouth empty words about “a world as it should be” – but, for all their honey coated words, the blueprint for the world they see, is a blueprint with out God and without God, they become architects of their own destiny, thus fulfilling the words of the world’s  first rebel – “and you shall be as gods.”   And, what is enormously frightening in all of this, are the masses of people who have no idea of either the source or the outcome of the journey under the leadership of these people on which they have embarked; but, they soon will.  As Saul Alinsky’s son commented regarding Obama  –“you learned your lesson well.”

“For God does know that in the day ye eat thereof then your eyes shall be opened and you will be like gods …”  Genesis 3:5

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, they shall prosper who love thee”  Psalm 122:6   Waiting and watching with YOU for the soon return of Jesus!  Cindy

  1. Wow. We need (always, but even more nowadays) to give thanks and praise to Yeshua, our Christ that he has conquered the one who animates these horrible things. If we look to him, we need not fear.

You should not take it as a sleight, Cindy, that I take my own advice to “check things out” and so before I even finished your post, I went over to Amazon, looked up the book, and clicked on the “Look Inside” tab for the 1989 edition (which you’d think they might have scrubbed by now).

It’s right there, plain as day, just as you say.

Worse, the quote is a double-layer attribution.

Mark this closely: Alinsky quotes himself quoting Lucifer.

He is not quoting from some book in which a fictional character called Satan is said to have said this or that. He quotes ‘Lucifer’ directly and attributes himself… as if he got it from him directly.

Go check it out for yourself.

    • Hi Art, you know of course, I would never consider it a sleight for you or anyone else to check out information in my post or any other – the opposite in fact, as I naturally assume that people would do so. I really appreciate your comments and the comments of all the other readers who take the time to share. A blog can only cover so much on a subject without becoming a book – so any additional thoughts God should lay on the hearts of the readers, only widens it in scope. Grace and blessings brother and thanks for sharing with me your continued insight and encouragement. Cindy

  2. One more quick thot. The power of Satan’s (and Alinsky’s) approach is that they rely on extremely attractive half-truths to build credibility.

Our society is, and has been for some time, made up of lonely people looking for hope in all the wrong places. Political, social and economic systems, when made into gods — however compelling in earthly terms — never fill the role that only Christ can. Fewer and fewer place their hope in the only hope that truly satisfies: Jesus.

The trick here is that the evil one, through Alinsky, knows and grabs onto peoples’ inner desperation in much the same way the gospel does — then proposes a shortcut solution to it. I.e., “Why wait for the promise of eternal life when you can feel more powerful now down here on earth? Isn’t that more practical?” (It’s much the same idea as many narcotics, which provide a short-cut to a dose of brain chemicals meant for other things.)

It’s the same trick Satan used on Jesus, tempting him in the desert. Jesus’ response, to each offer, was “IT IS WRITTEN”. How many of us would be willing to be that steadfast on God’s Word today?

    • Thanks for your additional comments Art. In re-reading my post, I can see that there is so much more that could be said. But, I am struck again with profound sadness for those who recognize, as Alinsky did in his observation of the 60’s generation, that materialism can never satisfy the longing for an answer to life’s most basic questions. Tragically, many people have been duped by the evil one in to thinking the answers to these very important questions can be found apart from the one is the source of all life, Yeshua.
My daughter made a good observation on the subject of “change”. The scripture tells us that God changeth not; Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever – interesting that in light of this, the word “change” would become the operative word in these last days.

  3. Cindy, this is (in a way) related, as far as messaging and weaving change in surreptitiously goes:

The history of the ties b/w music and “change” was most interesting.

    • Solid content there, but great, great caution is in order. In making his (correct, Biblical) points about the depravity of culture, the videographer has included a great deal of material from… the depraved culture. I watched a portion and had to turn it off, feeling somewhat sick and filled with darkness.

      • Good call, Art. One thing I would encourage is that while there is a focus at the beginning on examples in the modern culture, the most valuable part of the documentary (imho) is when they get into the history of philosophy and its ties in to the modern & post-modern era, including the progression and promotion of the lie through Levay, Crowley, and Leary, and their respective influence on music. There are some eye-opening connections there, or at least there were for me.

  4. Dear Cindy by the Sea,

For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

When I was 15, I saw this generation from a young man’s perspective. I was a farm boy going to the big city. We went from St. Libory to Lincoln Nebraska for choir. I couldn’t understand why they were rebelling in 1969. Our lives were perfect, well, as perfect as God could have made them, swatting fireflies at night, drinking Coca-Cola on the hood of a 59 Olds rocket 88 in the middle of a wheat field in July trying to see God’s hand on the men in the moon.

We all talked of what God had in store. We just talked about God and ….girls,…….and guns. The Gs

So watching obliquely this generation and almost being snared by them, we rebelled against them! We cleave to God. We espouse the truth of God.

We know mens words are hollow. We KNOW the Truth. He has written it upon our hearts. We cleave to the TRUTH.

I will quote from the Book of YosoY, Chapter One, verse one, … dedication to the greatest gift ever given, The Christ. “For we embrace the truth of God and have forsaken the lie, and worshiped and served our Creator who is blessed forever. Amen.”

A second dedication to the Lord God IEVE should be for THE PLAN. IEVE carved out a foothold in the midst of the Prince’s realm to come an get His Kingdom back and placed His honor upon Pharoah’s head.

Blessing be upon you and all that are of you. Praise is the name of the Lord.

    a lessor servant YosoY

  5. Dear Cindy,

My spirit took my brother in Christ Ultraguy’s advise and went to read for the quotations. The words are written. The battle is drawn. They have cast their lot, chosen sides and chosen poorly.

Let us join and remember the words of the Lord placed before Mordecai unto Esther, ‘For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

For these times we have been brought forth by our Creator & Redeemer. These will be the our Lord’s greatest days. We shall remember these days in the Kingdom. Let not our hearts fail Oh Lord, our strength and Rock.

Come Home Lord Yeshua, Lamb of God, and take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

Let us now go to Jerusalem and see these things the angels say.

  6. Sister Cindy,

    Extremely powerful post.

I enjoy (as do many others) your faithful work for our LORD!

Keep your hand on the plow, the right people are listening and changing their lives.

God Bless, your brother in Jesus Christ, daniel

    • Thank you Daniel, your encouragement is very much appreciated. I have been blessed by your web site as well and especially your beautiful prayers. I also enjoy the insights you share whenever you are on Steve’s program. Grace and blessings brother! Cindy

  7. As Joseph Herrin posted on his blog yesterday, and as I have posted on my blog many times, the people are buying the lie…which lie, any lie that makes them feel better about what they are doing…the lie of socialism, communism, feminism, abortion, homosexuality, sexual freedom, your parents are stupid, you name it, you can claim it! This year’s election will be no different; lies, lies, everywhere lies. It makes me sick. I am sick of the father of lies and lying in general. Thank God for the Way, the Truth and the Life. I am visiting with friends and we watched a movie last night. I had to get up and leave several times because of the offensiveness of the movie. I prayed for forgiveness afterward for watching it – more lies and sickness. Give me truth, Lord; no matter how painful it is. At least it’s the truth and there’s a place of beginning for real change. I’m very wary of what this year has to offer to us.

Thanks, Cindy, for continuing to tell the Truth! God bless you and keep you safe.
