By now, the party hats and noise makers have been put away or swept in to the dust bin. The previous year already fading from memory like the discarded coat of last years season. Not many looking back with longing on that one. Marked with an increase in terrorism, weather disasters and changes to laws that left most of us scratching our heads, we can only imagine what the coming year is going to hold.
I’m not a prophet and I don’t have a crystal ball. But, I do know what the Bible says. And, I have to tell you – it’s not looking good.
Which does not mean I’m without hope. I have great hope. I just don’t have hope for the future of this country and the world at large outside of the hope that I have in Jesus Christ.
As we start the New Year many are hoping that the coming election will provide a change from the direction in which we have been headed the past eight years. To get the country back on track. To make America what it used to be once again. A country that instead of shrinking back stands tall among the nations. But, the reality is this – no leader can provide what is inherently missing from among its own people. For the leader, whether President or King is no better or worse than the people for which they serve, so if you are expecting great things from the next election (if there is one), you will most likely be disappointed. For change cannot come to a nation whose individuals are not willing to change themselves. And from what I can see that is not happening.
Yes, we moan and groan about the state of things. But individually and collectively we are no better than the politicians we deplore. For we cannot point our fingers at others while harboring the same sin in and among ourselves.
Are we greedy? Are we immoral? Are we lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God? Do we excuse our own bad behavior in order to justify ourselves and the unholy way in which we live? Do we really care that 50 million babies (and counting) have been slaughtered in order that we might chase the American dream unimpeded? Does the knowledge of the sale of their body parts for profit shake us to our core? If it doesn’t, then there is some thing terribly, terribly wrong.
And, perhaps, the most inditing of all ….. do we want a fix to the problems that we face today, so that we can continue to live as if there were no consequences to our actions at all?
We want terrorism to go away. We want economic prosperity. We want to live in freedom and we want to live our best lives now ( in the words of Joel Osteen). We want, we want, we want ……. but, what we do not want …. is to change.
People, we are headed for a fall. For the patience of God – though longsuffering- is beginning to wear thin.
If you hate the change Obama brought to America ….. just wait ….. you have not seen anything yet …… for God himself has promised change, and, I guarantee, it is not one that anyone is going to like.
If you want to know what is in store for America ….and, in the not too far off future, I might add ….. read Revelation 18, where it is spelled out quite clearly.
So, as we enter this New Year …… I encourage you …. do not put your hope in any political party or leader. But, rather put your hope and trust in Jesus Christ. Making every effort to live (as the word says) holy and blameless before him in order to bring honor (and not shame) to his great name in these last days. And, if you are not already doing it ….. ask God where you need to change. He will be more than happy to help you. And, as always ……
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem they shall prosper who love thee” Psalm 122:6
Watching and waiting with YOU for the soon return of Jesus! Cindy

Thank you so much for your kind words. My grandchildren were here for Christmas, which was great but left me little time for writing. It’s nice to be missed and its equally nice to hear from you as well!

I pray that our Bridegroom comes to retrieve His Bride this year. That where He is, we might be there too. My husband is wonderful. My children are wonderful. My dental career is wonderful. I am in good health. By earthly standards, I should feel peachy keen. However, as grateful as I am for all these blessings, I am rather impatient for Jesus to come back. I’ve come to a point where I am truly befuddled as to how much time I actually have until the Bridegroom comes and I am transformed. It is a strange ache to be deeply grateful for as well as dissatisfied with the earthly blessings God has given me. My heart is so restless right now because I don’t know when Jesus is coming but I know that it is soon. I’m keeping watch as always with my lamp full of oil.

Thank you for sharing so succinctly what many of us are feeling right now. God bless you my friend and thank you for writing. Hopefully his coming is sooner than we think.
