From the Mouths of Babes

I have a six-year-old granddaughter, a kindergartener this year, due to her late birthday, who astonished her mother the other evening, when they were praying at bedtime. As they were discussing, what to pray about and for, my daughter was attempting to get her six-year-old to think beyond the usual request for puppies and kittens. So, she asked her daughter maybe instead of asking Jesus for things, we should ask him what he would like us to do. My granddaughter thought for a minute and said, “like what kinds of things” And, my daughter said, “well, helping people, being kind, telling your friends about Jesus”.  To which my granddaughter replied, “Oh, I do Mom, I tell my friends about Jesus” And, she mentioned a couple of their names. And, then added, “But, they don’t want to listen.”  (Just like adults!)  Then after a moment, she added this. “I don’t want to go hell”  My daughter was shocked that she would say such a thing, they had talked a lot about Jesus and heaven, of course, but, never about hell. At least not in any specific way that would terrify a child. So, she said, “oh, baby, you’re not going to go to hell, you believe in Jesus, the only people who go to hell are people who don’t believe in Jesus”.  But, Mom she said matter of factly,  “I had a “dream” yesterday that I was there!”

Oh my goodness! What kind of dream was this? Was this a nightmare? The boogie man in the closet kind of thing?  What six-year-old knows anything about hell.  Shocked but, intrigued my daughter cautiously asked her to describe what she was talking about. And, this is what she said:

“Hell is a very dark place, and you can hear water dripping. There are people there, some that are vicious, (yes, she used the word vicious and she is six years old),  they are bad angels and they are in cells behind bars, if you get too close to them they will try to bite or scratch you. There are other people there too (besides the bad angels) and, they are behind brick and glass with three holes in the glass so they can breathe.

She is describing this quite matter of factly, so my daughter went on to ask her, if she had been frightened, when she was there.

No“, she said. “Because Jesus was with me“.  She also said, the reason she could see in a place so dark was because Jesus was with her and he was the “light“.

“Graycie” (her name is Grayce), my daughter said,  “why would Jesus take you to a place like that?”  to which, she adamantly replied,   “I was there to count the cells; there are 20 of them.”

The next morning my daughter queried her again about the dream. No change in story. Adamant again that she was there to count the cells, of which there are 20.  What could that mean?

I was skyping with them yesterday and I ask my granddaughter if she wanted to tell me about the dream and, she said, “no”. And, she looked a little disturbed.  I said, “that’s okay. We don’t need to talk about it”.  And, I felt maybe there was too much talk about this for her little mind and it might be best to just drop the subject.  About thirty minutes later, she wanted to talk to me.  This time she said, “Grandma, do you want to know what our houses in heaven will be like?”  “Yes, I do”, I said.  “Well, mine”, she said,  “will have all kinds of princess stuff, my mommy’s will have all kinds of Queen stuff and my Daddy’s will have all kinds of Bronco stuff (football)”, she giggled.

Now, this is the kind of thing I expect from a six-year-old! As you can see, her “dream” of hell was far more advanced and detailed than your typical six-year-old kind of thinking. Which leads me to believe, this “dream” was somehow different from the rest.

Given the fact that she was adamant that she was there to “count” the cells, of which, there were 20 gave me some pause for thought.  According to her, the dream, which she described as “yesterday” would have been on 3/2/2013.  Which, if you add 20 days, is 3/22/2013.  A number most of us are familiar with as being associated with the occult i.e. Georgia Guidestones, Skull and Bones etc. Given the nature of the dream, (“bad angels” being held in confinement), I wondered if 3/22/2013 might be significant to what we read in the book of Jude and Revelation chapter 9 regarding the fallen ones and their release from the pit.

We live in amazing times.  Make of this what you will. I’m not saying this was a prophecy, a vision or anything else. I don’t know. If nothing else, food for thought – “hell” through the eyes of a six-year-old. And, just to let you know, when, she said, she did not want to “go to hell”, my daughter feels sure, it was not because she was frightened or thought that she might be sent there, but, rather it was a place she did not want to see or visit again. A place, no one would want to go.

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, they shall prosper, who love thee”  Psalm 122:6

Watching and waiting with YOU for the soon return of Jesus!  Cindy

  1. That certainly is a sophisticated dream for a six year old to express. I think she explained herself and the dream extremely well. I was telling my husband about it and he said she must have seen that on a cartoon or something. I doubt it but having no small children anywhere near me it seems unlikely.

[Hi Jane, Thanks for writing! I agree, its a pretty sophisticated dream for a six year old, which, in my opinion, makes it all the more striking. Even if she were recounting a movie or cartoon she had seen, I think it would have been couched in child like terms, similar to how she expressed what our houses in heaven would be like. The more I think about her description of what I consider to be Hades (Hell is yet to come), the more her description makes sense. I may append my blog with some of those thoughts, we’ll see. Many blessings to you and your husband! C]

  2. Cindy, thank you so much for sharing your precious granddaughter’s dream. From the mouth of babes is right. The Hell dream was far too detailed to just be any ordinary dream.

When my granddaughter was 9 my daughter found a note in her bedroom and placed it on their refrigerator. It read, “Dear God, Sometimes life is hard down here. Can I spend the night with you?” It left such an impression on me. My granddaughter was saved and baptized when she was 9 yrs old. The note was written around the same time has her salvation. Not too long after that she had a marvelous Rapture dream. She shared it with me when she spent the night. We were getting ready for church on Sunday morning when she wanted to discuss it. She knows nothing about the Rapture. GOD so loves the little children!

    Blessings,
    Rita D

[Thank you Rita for sharing this with me. Oh, that we adults would have the faith that children have! I’m sure it delights the Father, when these little ones testify of him with such complete trust and abandon in a way that puts most of us adults to shame! May God bless you and your dear little granddaughter! C]

  3. Cindy,

The Karites mark March 22nd as Nisan 10 Shabbat HaGadol.

What should we be watching for on Shabbat HaGadol/The Great Sabbath/Nisan 10? Just some thoughts:

    •Jews recognizing their Messiah?
    •receiving new garments?
•the coming of Elijah? two witnesses?
    •restart of Daniel’s 70th week prophecy clock?
•lambs being taken to Christ’s home?
•Jews finally finding out what the day was for/why it was special?
    •beginning of Great Sabbath/millennium?

In the Haftorah of the Shabbat prior to Pesach we read the possuk [Malachi 3:23]: “Behold, I send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.”

[Thanks Mike for sharing this great information. What an incredible day and time we are living in! Watching with great expectation for his soon coming! C]

  4. In all my years of church work, I have generally found children to be more spiritually sensitive than adults and are not encumbered by spiritual baggage. Thus in many ways they are a greater threat to Satan and his kingdom plans, It is no coincidence that abortions are legal and in the future, the open persecution of children may occur before God manifests Himself as was in the days Moses’ and Jesus’ births. Another thought – could the number 20 refer to the date of Obama’s scheduled arrival in Israel?

[Hi Stu, Thanks for your comment and you are exactly right! These babies have not been targeted without good reason. My friend Steve Coerper, sent me this verse from Luke 10:21, which, I think underscores how Jesus felt regarding the importance of children.

“In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.”

As far as March 22, seems like there are a number of reasons to keep this date in mind, the trip by O in my opinion, top on the list. Thanks for writing, your comment much appreciated! C]

  5. During his trip to Israel this month, U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to pay a visit to the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, members of his delegation told Israeli government ministry representatives on Monday.

According to a high-ranking Israeli official, that stop, scheduled for Friday, March 22, was added to his itinerary only in the past few days. UNESCO recognized the Church of the Nativity as a Palestinian World Heritage Site in June 2012, several months after Palestine became a full-fledged member of the organization.

This place is still considered to be built on top of where jesus was born.

  7. Hi Cindy….I have followed your blog for some time. Hard to find “kindred” spirits these days! My prayer for myself, family & friends as well as the lost is that we will not be deceived! I want to share a website I stumbled across re: the number “20”….http://www.betemunah.org/twenty.html. As the gentleman from another website I follow says ‘eyes open, no fear!’ Looking for the Lord’s return!

  8. Cindy,

Thanks for sharing the dream of your grandchild. 20 is the number of redemption. “Look up for our redemption draweth near”.
