A Year for Signs

the blood-red moon of a lunar eclipse

On Monday December 20, weather permitting the blood-red moon of a lunar eclipse will be visible over the Hawaiian islands from 9:40 p.m. until 10:50 p.m.  Visible from the mainland in the early morning hours of December 21, it could be the last and most important sign of the year;  a year which for anyone who has been paying attention these last few months has been if anything a year for signs

“There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places and fearful events and great signs from heaven.”  Luke 21:11

2010 has been just such a year – let’s take a brief look back.

– Tuesday January 12, 2010 – a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake strikes PortauPrince Haiti collapsing the Presidential Palace, the National Assembly building and the Port-au-Prince Cathedral; an estimated 230,000 people are killed with thousands of others left to become the homeless victims of crime and disease that often follows in the wake of such great disasters.

– Saturday February 27, 2010. Another earthquake, this one centered 71 miles from Chile’s second largest city, Concepcion.  At a magnitude of 8.8, it was 700-800 times stronger than the earthquake which struck Haiti the month before, but, because it was centered much deeper in the earth than that of the Haiti quake, the loss of life was considerably less.

-Wednesday April 14, 2010, the second phase of eruptions of the spectacular and deadly Eyjafallajokull volcano in Iceland begins (initial eruption late December 2009) garnering world-wide attention for its stunning images of fire and ice, lighting and smoke and the tons of ash that brought airports all across Europe to a standstill.

– Tuesday April 20, 2010,  (Hitler’s birthday) – the Deep-Water Horizon Oil Rig explodes  killing 11 men and injuring 17 others, causing oil to spill unchecked fom the seafloor in to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico for the next several months killing marine life and destroying livelihoods all along the coast until the oil flow causing the water to appear like blood could be stopped.

– Saturday May 8, 2010,  A gray whale is sighted off the coast of Israel, an extraordinary event so unlikely that one exuberant headline simply put it this way  –appears back from the dead.”   Not seen in Mediterranean waters since the 17th or 18th centuries, the Jonah like re-appearance of the whale after 3 centuries drew everyone’s attention.

– Sunday July 11, the third in a total of three solar eclipses which would fall for three consecutive years in a row on the Jewish date of Av 1 took place.  Beginning at the remote and mysterious  Easter Island, this eclipse would  be visible only from the far reaches of the Southern Pacific. Easter Island was given its name by a dutch explorer who first first encountered the island on Easter Sunday 1722.

– Thursday August 5, 2010, 33 miners were trapped, 2,300 feet below ground, buried alive when the San Jose copper-gold mine collapsed around them.

– Friday September 4, 2010 a  7.1 magnitude earthquake strikes New Zealand, its epicenter just 19 miles west of Christchurch.  Amazingly, no one died!

– Wednesday October 13, 2010 – all 33 miners are rescued (resurrected) alive and well after surviving an amazing 69 days underground in the collapsed Chilean mine.

–  Thursday December 2, 2010, a devastating fire engulfs the mountains of Carmel Israel on the first day of Hanukkah.  The fire claimed at least 44 lives making it the deadliest fire in Israeli history.

–  Sunday December 12, 2010 the discovery of the marble statue of the goddess Aphrodite is found after a massive storm collapses a cliff at an archaelogical dig at the ancient seaport of Ashkelon in Israel.  4 feet tall and weighing 440 pounds, the statue is thought to have once stood in a Roman Bath House utilized by the same Romans who conquered and destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD  two thousand years ago -that which was once hidden has now come to light.  *More on this next post.

– Wednesday December 15, 2010,  a wooden vessel full of refugees is crushed against the razor-sharp and jagged rocks of  Christmas Island as they try to make landfall in tumultuous seas.  An estimated 100 people were killed, 8 of whom were children. Christmas Island, another remote Pacific Island  named for its discovery in 1643 by Captain William Mynors of the Royal Mary, a British East India Company vessel which sailed past the island on Christmas day.

And, last but, not least, the coming lunar eclipse of December 21.  Have I missed anything?   Whew!  What a year it has been!

I wasn’t quite sure what I would find when I began putting this post together this morning.  Thanks to friend and reader John Buckingham through whose encouragement to write on the lunar eclipse got me started writing  this morning.  And, although, I did not address it specifically (the lunar eclipse);  I’m hoping that by this brief synopsis of all the events of the past year, we might better see the message that God intends for us.   I look forward to hearing your thoughts and any additions you might have.

“Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem, they shall prosper who love thee”  Psalm 122:6    Watching  and waiting with YOU for the soon return of Jesus!   Cindy

    • Hi Michael, Thanks for bringing up an excellent point! Of all the signs of course, Israel is God’s timepiece and it is most precisely through fulfillled prophetic events in their history that we can know exactly where we are at on God’s time clock. Pressed for time with the holidays here and family coming, I probably could have done a more thorough job, but, I knew I could count on my faithful friends and readers to fill in any parts I may have missed. Grace and blessings for a joyful season in Messiah Yeshua! Cindy

  2. Nice summary, Cindy! Before I retired Friday evening, I asked Father to show me what he wanted me to ponder as I opened the scriptures at “random”. Knowing of the lunar eclipse that is coming, I was startled to find the verses at the top of the left-hand page:

He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing. He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not split open under them. He covers the face of the full moon and spreads over it his cloud. He has inscribed a circle on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness. The pillars of heaven tremble and are astounded at his rebuke. (Job 26:7-11, ESV)

The bit about “circle on the face of the waters” could only have been known when this was written if it were written from an extra-terrestrial, supernatural, Divine perspective. Covers the face of the full moon… circle… light and darkness… pillars tremble… at his rebuke. Hold onto your hats, folks…

    • Wow! Amazing! I think my heart skipped a beat reading those verses!!!! Interestingly, I had a similar experience yesterday morning as I was praying before I started to write. I had intended to write specifically about the lunar eclipse, but, as you can see, my post turned in to a summary of events. But, on asking the Lord about the coming lunar eclipse, I did the same thing – after praying, I randomly opened my Bible and when I flipped it open, it had opened to the last chapter of Habukkuk. I’ll quote a portion of it here, but, be sure to read the whole chapter as the whole chapter is very interesting. I think my heart skipped more than a few beats as I read these words:

“Were you angry with the rivers, O Lord? Was your wrath against the streams? Did you rage against the sea, when you rode with your horses and your victorious chariots? You uncovered your bow, you called for many arrows. You split the earth with rivers, the mountains saw you and writhed. Torrents of water swept by: the deep roared and lifted its waves on high. Sun and moon stood still in the heavens at the glint of our flying arrows at the lighting of your flashing spear. In wrath you strode through the earth and in anger your threshed the nations, you came out to deliver your people to you your anointed one, You crushed the leader of the land of wickedness, you stripped him from head to toe” Habukkuk 3: 8-13

An incredible passage! Tomorrow night the lunar eclipse will be visible over Hawaii from 9:40 p.m. until 10:50 p.m. When I read those !!times, I was a little bit startled as I have family coming from the mainland tomorrow – the scheduled arrival time of their flight – 9:40 p.m !!! If the Lord should take us home at that time, hopefully, my car will be delivered safely off the freeway as I will be airport bound at exactly that time!

  3. Very well done Cindy!!
For anyone who has eyes to see and ears to hear it appears the Lord has trumpeted His warnings this past year. Events that “fulfill” what He prophesized would happen in this end time scenario. And as I mentioned in our correspondence, the fact that so many of these tragedies that befell the planet this year bear Christian names——Christmas Island, Concepcion, Easter Island, Christchurch, Prince—- leads me to believe that He is especially trying to get the attention of His flock.

Of all the locations that these calamities could have taken place around the planet what are the chances that so many would bear Christian related names?? Way-way more than just coincidental in my way of reasoning. So with this in mind I believe that we Christians need to be focused more than ever to prepare ourselves, our loved ones and witness to the lost that indeed the rest of His end time prophesies are very near—–even at the door.

The next major event on the prophetic calendar is the Rapture of the Church. Many believe due to biblical and mathematical research that it may occur this coming Tuesday during the rare solar / lunar eclipse. Prior and future Rapture / Ascension events were accompanied by great earthquakes. This rare solar planetary alignment Tuesday could provide the extra gravitational pulls required to initiate such stresses on the planet.

Bottom line—all these prophetic warnings from the Lord this year are leading up to something major. Could that something occur this Tuesday? In the event that it does here is our itinerary——-
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

In Christ Our Lord and “Savior”
    John B
    Luke 21:36

    • Great summary John! As I was compiling the list of the many events this past year I was struck by a number of things, too numerous to expound on in detail with the limited amount of time I have to write. But, one of the things I found highly interesting was Easter Island and Christmas Island both prominent in news for 2010. Think about it – Easter Island was discovered on Easter Sunday, Christmas Island was discovered on Christmas day. Christmas has to do of course with his birth, Easter with his death and resurrection. So we have the story of Jesus in the names of these two islands – the alpha and omega, of it you might say. Easter Island has the many monolithic stones who appear to be watching – watching for what? The return of Jesus, or perhaps just symbolic of ???? Christmas Island, with its sharp jagged rocks makes me think of Jesus as the stone upon which all others (Gentile nations, unbelievers) will be broken in pieces or crushed in these last days.

    • “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things “begin” to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

I love the words God used—–“distress of nations, with perplexity”. Perplexity as per Webster’s dictionary—-the condition of being perplexed; bewilderment; confusion. So for the most part ,the populous of the planet with the exception of those who have found the narrow path that leads to salvation are in a perplexed, confused and bewildered state as to what’s happening to our planet. Instead of harkening to Gods Word for the answers they will “with perplexity” come up with their own. They will (as per Jay’s article) blame global warming, shoddy construction and say that there is nothing really that abnormal with the extreme weather and earthquakes that we are experiencing. Those who won’t acknowledge that God is the creator of all and subscribe to evolution will be more and more perplexed—bewildered–and confused as to what’s transpiring on our planet. Pray that they be lucky enough to stumble onto a Christian blog like Cindy’s and that the scales fall off their eyes.

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

      • Thanks John! Well said!!!

  5. Dear John B and others,
I DON’T believe in pre-trib rapture! Whenever the Lord sends an unusual prophetic sign (such as tomorrow’s Winter Solstice lunar eclipse), so many church people immediately start chattering about “the rapture is near. We’re outta here!” This shows that you have NO understanding of the Christian faith. “Our faith which was delivered once for all to the saints” (Jude 3) is NOT about running away into the clouds when the enemy comes. The Christian faith calls us to STAND on the Rock of Truth, which is Christ Jesus, in these last days. “And they overcame him [the dragon, Satan] by: the blood of the Lamb, by the word of their testimony, and they did NOT love their lives even unto death”, Rev. 12:11. Pre-trib rapture is the great golden calf idol of deception in these last days, Satanically designed to deceive the weak and immature into escapist fantasy, to shirk their duty to stand for truth. But the shining hour of the valiant, last days Church will occur when we face the forces of the Beast of Revelation and OVERCOME him, “NOT by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord of Hosts”, Zech. 4:6; Dan. 12:3; Rev. 15:(1-4). Pre-trib rapture has NO place in serious Christian discourse, now that the Lord’s time is very short.
    Cathy G

    • Hi Cathy, Thanks for writing and sharing your opinion with us. I think we all agree that time is short, but, I would have to say in response to your comment that there are many serious Bible scholars who would disagree with you regarding the rapture. Thank God we are saved by the grace and blood of Jesus and not on the basis of our opinions. Cindy

  6. Great list! You forgot one though. April 4, 2010 Easter Sunday a 7.2 earthquake south of San Diego CA. We felt that one big time! Love your website. God Bless!

  7. For the beginning of 2011.

This all seems like a bad dream. We all knew this day was coming. Please read what Steve Quayle was told over the weekend. May God be with us all. In Jesus name amen.

  9. Joel 2:30-31
“30”And I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.”

Sure sounds like this year: wonders in the heavens and on earth (aurora borealis-like lights over Russia and Canada earlier this year, “UFO”s in various places), blood (gulf oil spill, red sludge spill in eastern europe), fire (list the many serious fires this year including recently in Israel), columns of smoke (the big news volcanoes of this year), the sun and moon darkened (solar and lunar eclipses this year). Seems like we’ve specifically had every event listed all happen this year (as opposed to just some of them in years past) and been covered by international news and the internet so everyone is witness to them.

  10. Cindy, you have presented an excellent summary of this year’s prophetic events! You are truly a blessing to the Body of Christ, as your blog blesses us all daily. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say “thanks so much” for sharing your Gift with us this year, and to wish you a most wonderful and very merry Christmas!

    Carlos Montana

    • Thank you so much Carlos! What a blessing and privilege it has been for me to share with all of you this past year! It’s been amazing to see how God has used the internet to bring people together for sharing information, for encouragement and for prayer in these last days. Wish you and your family a joy filled Christmas and a blessing filled New Year! Cindy

  11. Cindy,

Great Article! It seems that to put the cherry on top of a year full of signs and wonders, Obama signs the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Repeal into Law with the words, “It’s Done.” Those words seem to ring prophetically true when applied to the state of America and its rebellion towards the Father. The final nail in the coffin has been driven in with pen and paper, and the words, “It’s Done” sound strangely familiar to “It is Finished.” It has already been written before the foundation of the world was laid, so therefore, let it be done, that our Lord may return sooner than later.

    Blessings in Christ Jesus!

    David
