Gray Whale spotted off Herliya Marina, Israel
Living in Hawaii for the past ten years, I’ve developed a great appreciation for the mammoth creatures who inhabit the deep known as whales. Every year during the winter months the Humpback Whales make their way from Alaska to the warmer waters of the southern Pacific for giving birth to their young. It’s not uncommon during these winter months to witness from the shore an occasional fluke, fin, blast of spray or breach – all of which are an unforgettable sight, no matter how many times you’ve seen it! So, when I read a post on Five Doves yesterday posted by Susan, “Largest whale ever seen spotted in Israel,” – it immediately caught my attention.

For those of you who may have missed the story out of Israel Saturday May 8, a 40 foot long Gray Whale was spotted off the coast of Tel Aviv. Called by one news article, “the most amazing whale sighting in history”. It is truly astonishing, when you realize that these whales have been extinct in the Atlantic since the 1700’s; that’s more than 300 years! And, with only 20,000 or so of these amazing animals still in existence, it is equally incredible that one of them should make the incredibly long journey from the Pacific to the Mediterranean in a journey that is truly baffling to scientists. For the whale would have either had to swim through the Panama canal, through the Bering Strait near the ice cap or around the Cape of Africa, all of which are nothing short of miraculous considering the extremely long distances involved. And, with Israel figuring so predominantly in the news these days and in light of Biblical prophecy being fulfilled, I can’t help, but, think that the sighting of this whale off the coast of Tel Aviv is signficant.

One of the news articles I read was titled: Mediterranean Gray whale appears ‘back from the dead’. I liked that title. For the author, I believe unbeknownst to him, was making a prophetic statement. In Matthew 12:38, some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus asking him for a miraculous sign. And, according to Luke 11:16, what they were requesting was a heavenly sign, perhaps a sign in the skies. It was not enough for them, as it says in Luke 7:22, that “the blind see, the lame walk and the leper is purified.” They wanted something more – and this is how Jesus answered them.
“A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign. But, none will be given it except for the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a great fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Ninevah will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here.” Matthew 12:39-41
Most of us are familiar with this passage and understand it rightly so to pertain to the resurrection. But, I believe in looking at the book of Jonah, there may be a secondary application as well. For Jonah is listed as one of the minor prophets, and a prophet he is indeed.

Based on the size of the whale, scientists believe the whale spotted off the coast of Israel is that of a mature adult. Mature gray whales from what I have read, are 40 -45 feet in length and have a life expectancy of 50 – 70 years. Splitting those numbers down the middle, it would be a safe bet, to say that this particular whale is approximately 60 years old. Which, if this should be the case, its birth would have coincided with the birth of Israel in 1948! Interesting, as both the whale and the nation of Israel once considered dead, are not only not dead, but, are alive and thriving today and close to rounding out a generation of 70 years.
We know from an analysis of numbers in scripture, that the number 40 speaks of a time of trial, chastisement and probation. And, the number 70 (seven the number of completion) denotes a generation. Because the final seven years of history primarily concern Israel, I believe the size and age of this whale are direct indications that the time of Jacob’s trouble is at hand. A confirmation that the “sign of Jonah” given to the Pharisee’s who approached Jesus in disbelief was a sign not only for them, but, for Israel today, who, like the Pharisee’s of old, remain largely in unbelief. For what is the book of Jonah about, if it is not repentance.
Listen to the prayer of Jonah as he prayed inside the belly of the great fish and apply it to unbelieving Israel today.
“In my distress I called to the Lord and he answered me. From the depths of the watery grave, I called for help and you listened to my cry. You hurled me in to the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. I said, I have been banished from your sight, yet I will look again toward your holy temple. The engulfing waters threatened me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. To the roots of the mountains I sank down, the earth beneath barred me in forever. But, you brought my life up from the pit, O Lord my God. When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you Lord, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that would be theirs. But I, with a song of Thanksgiving will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the Lord.” Jonah 2:2-9
Yes, salvation is of the Lord. Something Israel will realize when they have sunk to the bottom of the depths as Jonah did, with nowhere to turn and no one to call on, but, God. As I pondered the significance of the sighting, I wondered if it was a sign for Israel or a sign for the church and I decided it was both. I believe it is first and foremost a sign for Israel, for the whale was sighted very close to land, not more than a mile off the shore of Tel Aviv. To me this indicates that this pertains to Israel. It pertains to us the church only in the sense that God has given us the eyes to see and to recognize that the time is at hand. Scientists may be baffled as to how the whale arrived in the Mediterranean, but, I am not. God brought the whale in the same way he brought the animals to the ark – he called them. And after he called them, he closed the door of the ark on Noah and his family.
An interesting side note – After the repentant Jonah arrived in Nineveh, he preached to the city that they would have forty days to repent. Forty days from the first sighting of the whale on May 8 is June 17, – the 5th of Tammuz on the Jewish calendar AND the anniversary of Ezekiel’s vision of the chariot. A vision which has to do with many heavenly mysteries including – the heavens and firmament, angels and the twelve tribes of Israel; something which may be alluded to in Revelation 7:1.
“After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. Then I saw another angel coming up from the east having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: Do not harm the land, the sea or the trees, until we put a seal of God on the foreheads of the servants of our God. Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from the tribes of Israel.” Rev. 7:1-4
Will the twelve tribes of Israel be sealed forty days from the sighting of the whale? I don’t know, but, I can tell you this – we who are waiting and watching for the return of Jesus are going home soon! We have witnessed the sign of Jonah and the time of Jacob’s trouble is ready to begin.

As soon as I saw this article, I began thinking, OK, Lord, what are you trying to tell me here and the Spirit said, “Jonah….think about Jonah”! Praise God, He is AWESOME. That is the main word that keeps coming to my mind these days about our God. HE IS AWESOME, MIND BLOWING, UNPHATHOMABLE and WORTHY TO BE PRAISED.

Great research and discernment, Cindy!
Since whales are so large (and therefore eat a great deal) their presence bespeaks an entire ecosystem of life we cannot see, much as does the reality of Christ. Our life in Christ is “below the surface”.
To have it breaking off the surface off the coast of Israel indicates LIFE, contrasting sharply with the blood-like oil clogging the surface of our coast, which is killing it off.
The way they eat is even more interesting. They feed from the very bottom — from the things that have “fallen down” covered in mud keeping the things that are nourishing and spitting out what is not, just as Christ does with the lukewarm believers in the church at Laodicea. They most typically congregate in pods of three (Trinity?) but up to sixteen (sounds like a good small group). Larger pods tend to be unstable.
I especially like the term Kim used: “unfathomable”. Like the Gray Whale’s underwater range and feeding habits, miles below, it “goes deep”. We cannot fully plumb the depths of this mystery.
The real kicker for me though, is this: The Latin name for the Gray Whale is “Eschrichtius robustus”. It means (roughly) the robust oath of Christ, the Word made flesh!!!
Praise our Lord and Savior, Yeshua — the Christ who’s returning to reign!!

Art – Robustus does mean “hardy” or “robust”, but where did you find a definition for Eschrichtius? I’m having trouble finding one via Latin-to-English translators online; perhaps you have found a good one.
I did find this info on one site: “Gray Whales were once called Devil Fish because of their fighting behavior when hunted. The Gray Whale is the sole species in the genus Eschrichtius, which in turn is the sole genus in the family Eschrichtiidae. This animal is one of the oldest species of mammals.”

Correct info for the Latin name of the gray whale:
The Gray Whale’s scientific name is Eschrichtus robustus.
The genus name honors Daniel Fredrik Eschricht, and the specific name is Latin for “stout or robust”.
Looking further into Eschrich (without the ending “t”, which had no definitive results in my searches):
Eschrich is German: from a Germanic personal name composed of the elements ask ‘ash’, ‘spear’ + rik ‘mighty’, ‘rich’.
So a stout mighty ashen spear, perhaps?

Thank you for your comment, Cindy. I saw this report on the Drudge last night before bed. I knew immediately this was a sign of Jonah. It is such a blessing to read what other watchmen are seeing and confirming too. I am hoping for Yeshua’s return this month for various reasons you have mentioned. But if He tarries, I have been waiting since 1988, and will continue with praise and excitement for such a time as this! Tamra

Wonderful and exciting post Cindy. Prophetic events are happening so quickly now my head is spinning. I have a terrible family problem that’s been on going for several years which I’ve been praying about and I had just about lost hope that my prayers would be answered but suddenly I’m at peace. It seems that God is telling me in the spirit to hang in there, we’ll be going home soon!

Cindy, I also saw the first story on the Isreal whale on Drudge last night, but we had a another 40 ft grey whale in Dana Point Harbor in Calif. It was tangled in rope (significant?). Then I read of the one in False Creek Canada also 40 ft. 3 grey whales, all 40 ft long in the same week. The Lord is yelling out this sign. I also immediately thought of Jonah, and Leviathan. He is truly trying to get the attention of those who are watching.

Seriously though, I think you may have stumbled us onto a pretty provocative and timely clue.
The ONLY time the word ‘wail’ shows up in the NT in the KJV is in Revelation 1:7 and Jesus’ return —
“Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.”
And the last (of eight) times that its Greek root word ‘kopto’ shows up is in Revelation 18:9, regarding the fall of Babylon —
“And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament [wail; ‘kopto’] for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning…”

Cindy…I am sure you are aware a grey whale was spotted the same day in Southern California, and has now died. Since one whale (Israel) and one (SoCal) same day only the SoCal whale dies after 3-days…seems like their is a connection and a message here. Any further thoughts?

Hi James, Good observation and yes, I do think there is an obvious connection. I was talking to my daughter this morning about your question regarding the whales and she reminded me of Psalm 9:16 – “the Lord is known by his justice, the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hand.” The fact that one whale of the same type is spotted off the coast of Israel and the other is ensnared on the same day off the coast of the United States is not a coincidence. The spiritual imagery as you noted in your comment of this same subject regarding leviathan is quite telling. The United States is getting ensnared “tangled up” in something they should not be (division of Jerusalem) and the fact that the ensnared whale died three days later does not bode well for the United States. As it says in Zech. 2:8 “for who ever touches Israel, touches the apple of God’s eye”. Cindy

In further research, the Whale in Israel was first spotted on May 8th and the Whale in SoCal 3-days later on the 11th – another 3-days later (14th) the SoCal whale died. The only reported Whale death during this timeframe. Is their a possible message here for the U.S., as Cindy provided a very good possible interpretation of the Whale in Israel.

I will also add, during this same 3-day SoCal Whale beaching to death period, rare Rainbow clouds appeared over SoCal, the same type Rainbow clouds were seen over China and Chile before their major quakes.

This is a remarkable set of connections, James. The LA whale death on 5/14, as most here probably know, occurred on the anniversary of Israel’s founding. More particularly, that was the date Harry Truman unilaterally signed off on it, leading the way to making it possible. For the gematria to then line up with the current president in this way sends a strong signal. For “Pi” to be involved says to me “what comes around goes around” or perhaps “the Lord knows and sees ALL that goes on in this round world which He made”.

The addition of the whole and fractional being 70 = “Ahmadinejad” in Simple Gematria
The number seventy is another combination of two of the perfect numbers, seven and ten. As compared with the sum of two numbers, the product exhibits the significance of each in an intensified form. Hence 7 x 10 signifies perfect spiritual order carried out with all spiritual power and significance. Both spirit and order are greatly emphasized.
I have not drawn any conclusions yet, just reporting my findings – further thoughts welcomed.

This is part of what came to me recently, beginning 3/11/2010:
I realized that 70 festival of weeks (70 years [Jeremiah]) took us to 2017 from late 1947 when the commandment went forth in November of that year to reinstate Israel as sovereign.
Next I realized from 1967 to 2017 was 50 years which brought into remembrance Pentecost and Jubilee
So I did what no one ever suggested to do before that day, and added together the 1290 and 1335 to get the sum of 2,625 years
I then subtracted those years from 2017 and came to 608 B.C. Having no Idea what I would find, I did a Google search of the year 608 B.C. and this is what came up first, as if though I was being guided: – read more

Dear Cindy,
Thank you for providing the continuing nourishment of the Scriptures. We all read the sign of Jonah and take it to heart and marvel at the Hand of God. But, I have overlooked the 2nd half of what our Lord said in the Sign of Jonah, “The men of Ninevah will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it.”
Who is chastising US? Who is condemning US? We say they are islamic terrorists. We say they are fundamentalist radicals. The Men of Ninevah are known to the Lord but not to US.
Our Redeemer and the One in who’s image we are made told US and it is written in the Sign of Jonah. He will use THE MEN OF NINEVAH.
We say many things except for the continuing important part of the 2nd half of the Sign of Jonah, “for they repented at the preaching of Jonah”
Our people have not repented unto the Lord. We kill 40 million of our defenseless babies and say how wicked is China, Russia, Hitler. We covet our neighbors property and call it welfare. We lust for another and divorce our covenant coholder and say it is irreconcilable differences.
We point out the speck of dust in our neighbors eye with 20/20 vision from 5000 miles away, yet we cannot see the beam in our eye. We have blinded ourselves with US.
We have continued with a heart of stone. Even our Black Regiment is deaf. Our nations pulpits are filled with blatherings words. We do not want to hear,………REPENT.
It is truly the word of Love. Only to the ones He loves does He chastise and ask to change. If He didn’t love US, he wouldn’t be asking US to change our ways.
Oh Lord, great is thy name. Forgive me, Lord, for I am wrong. Please change my heart and make it thine. Please forgive me, forgive US. Let US be filled with you.
Oh Lord, thank you for the men of Ninevah. Thank you for sending The Men of Ninevah. Thank you for using The Men of Ninevah for it shows you love US. The Men of Ninevah have been sent to US because we are a treasure in your eye.

Excellent points, YosoY. Absolutely, the sign of Jonah is one of repentance – first for Israel, who I believe God is trying to provoke to look in to their own scriptures (the book of Jonah) for its meaning – and secondly, to those of us who claim his name and claim to be his bride, to get our house in order (if we have not already done so) – More than likely, there is a pre-determined amount of days following this sign for repentance to take place – if we’re not willng to do it within this allotted time frame, then God may well use a tyrannical goverment and Islam to do it for us. This is part of what came to me recently, beginning 3/11/2010:
I realized that 70 festival of weeks (70 years [Jeremiah]) took us to 2017 from late 1947 when the commandment went forth in November of that year to reinstate Israel as sovereign.
Next I realized from 1967 to 2017 was 50 years which brought into remembrance Pentecost and Jubilee
So I did what no one ever suggested to do before that day, and added together the 1290 and 1335 in Daniel 12 to get the sum of 2,625 years
I then subtracted those years from 2017 and came to 608 B.C. Having no Idea what I would find, I did a Google search of the year 608 B.C. and this is what came up first, as if though I was being guided:

I then went forward 1290 years bringing me to 682 A.D. Right in the middle of the building of the Dome of the Rock.
As i said, some strange things took place, and for me to tell you those things, would be to invoke thoughts of lunacy from you. What happened was for me…But one event did happen for a witness to the numbers I came up with, that when realized, will be the biggest archeological discovery in the history of mankind. I’m not over stating this.
During the whirlwind, I was exploring earthquake faults along the west coast of the United States, when my buddy suggested i look at the Cascadia (what he called it) fault that is under the sea, up along the west coast. As I was going northward on Google maps (satellite), the fault began to shift to the west toward Alaska. The fault is huge, so I kept following it until I went passed the horn of Alaska. As I went passed the horn, to my utter shock, there it was, a scorpion’s stinger perfectly shaped at the bottom of the Bering Sea.
The first thing that popped into my mind after the shock was, “Zoom out!” So I did so, and what I found Daniel, is going to flip the world upside down. All the beasts from Genesis, Ezekiel, Daniel, and Revelation are painted by God in the formation of the earths crust. See attached screen shots
I zoomed out and there was the bear with the mouth of a lion filling up the entire Pacific Ocean. The ram to the west, as if he is running westward, and his mouth is eating Australia. Under S.America is a hoof on top of a serpents head. Genesis 3:15 – michael333

Hi Cindy,
It seems that prophecy is occurring before our eyes! Jonahs travel from Jaffa to Ninevah is 560 miles as the crow flies. About 28 days to travel that distance averaging 20 miles a day. Add a couple days for the road not being in a straight line. 30 travel days plus the 40 day time limit is a total of 70 days. May 8 to July 19 is about 72 days. July 19 is the 9th of Av, a day when both of the Jewish temples were destroyed along with many other disasters for Israel over the centuries.
It is a time to turn back to God and to love your neighbor as yourself.

* I counted the days from May 8 until July 19 and if I counted correctly, its exactly 70 days!! Incredible as 70 is a very significant number in scripture!

Great Post!! I was hoping someone would do a post on the sign of Jonah (opposed to climate shifting) for the reason of this grey whales appearance in Israel.
