Heaven Bound

“While people are saying, ‘Peace and safety’ destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman and they shall not escape.  But you, brothers and sisters are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief”  1 Thessalonians 5:3-4

In this part of New Mexico it’s common to find big beautiful Cottonwood trees growing where ever there is a water source. These trees grow very tall and provide excellent shade in the summer months which is a definite bonus for those living in this hot and arid climate. But if you know anything about Cottonwood trees you know they are susceptible to falling down anytime they get too heavy with water and foliage. And since moving to this property six years ago we have lost at least seven trees.

Signs

Most of the time before a tree falls we will notice it beginning to lean. And in the photo above which might at first glance look like a large leafy hedge it is actually the latest of our trees to come down. For the last year or so we have noticed it leaning just a wee bit more than it was before. And from our experience with the other trees we knew it was just a matter of time before it came down and sure enough this past Tuesday it took a final bow and crashed to the ground.

Watching vs Not Watching

The day before it fell my sister who was visiting from out of town was surprised when my husband pointed it out this particular tree telling her that it was one we expected to come down fairly soon.  To her it looked like a sturdy tree  … pretty much like all the other trees on the property … but then again, because she doesn’t live here she hadn’t been watching. So, the next day when it actually fell she was amazed to find out the very tree  he had pointed out came down the very next day.

Knowing

It’s kind of like that with Bible prophecy. For those of us watching we are able to determine that by the signs the rapture and the tribulation are very near. It won’t take us by surprise but for those not watching it will be a completely unexpected event. We may not know the day or hour but like the tree in our yard we knew it was coming and coming soon – it was just a matter of time.
