Asleep On The Job

“He who watches over Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps” Psalm 121:4

I don’t know about you but I think it’s quite plain that the one who watches over Israel is not the so called “leader of the free world”. As they say, “a picture is worth a thousand words” – and in my opinion this photo says it all. And the expression on the Prime Minister’s face- even with the mask – seems to say, ” uh, should I keep talking (?) because I think he’s gone to sleep”. What an embarrassing and humiliating situation. Our enemies must be crowing with delight. Poor Joe; confused, addled and spent he just needs some warm milk and some one to tuck him in. Good night Joe.

Psalm 121

I lift my eyes to the hills– where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip– he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you–the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm–he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

Keeping Watch

Something Jesus demonstrated so beautifully that night in the garden while his disciples slept- keeping watch. And, in spite of his admonition to watch and pray – they (like us) just could not do it and before they knew it were fast asleep. Which shows our weakness and his strength. You see, in Exodus 12:42 it is commanded that the Israelites stay awake all night on Passover.

“Because the Lord kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the Lord for the generations to come”. Exodus 12:42

But by Jesus staying awake while they slept Psalm 121 would be fulfilled. It is the Lord who stands watch … and he did …just like he does now. It is the Lord who stands watch over our souls and our salvation. On our own we simply cannot do it. A lesson Israel is due to learn in the very near future.

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem they shall prosper who love thee” Psalm 122:6

Watching and waiting with YOU for the soon return of Jesus! Cindy
